What is New Chitose Airport?
New Chitose Airport is the largest airport in Sapporo, Hokkaido and is located in Chitose City, about 50 kilometers from Sapporo. It serves as a key access point to destinations across Hokkaido.
The passenger terminal complex consists of two buildings, one for domestic flights and one for international flights.
Immigration Procedure Flow
At New Chitose Airport, international arrivals are on the second floor.
After landing, just follow this order:
Immigration → Baggage Claim → Customs → Entry.
After disembarking from the aircraft, follow the signs for Arrivals to the immigration inspection area.
Immigration inspection is a mandatory step when entering Japan. Please have your passport ready, along with a visa if required. You should also complete the immigration card distributed on the aircraft.
Line up at the immigration inspection counter and present your passport and immigration card to the officer. Once you receive the entry stamp, the procedure is complete.
During peak arrival times, the immigration area can become crowded, so it’s wise to allow extra time in your schedule. Completing your immigration card in advance will help ensure a smoother and faster experience.
After immigration, follow the signs to the baggage claim area.
Check the information board to find your flight number and the correct carousel letter.
Baggage is distributed across carousels from E to B. Make sure you match your flight number with the assigned carousel before waiting.
Proceed to your designated carousel, such as B, C, D or E, and wait for your luggage to arrive.
Once you have collected all your checked baggage, head toward the baggage claim exit door to continue to customs.
After collecting your luggage, proceed to Customs.
At customs, you may use the electronic declaration terminals to complete your form.
If you have nothing to declare, simply follow the signs to the green gate and exit the customs area.
If you have any items to declare, proceed through the red gate. If not, proceed through the green gate. If you have purchased any duty-free goods, please declare them.
Greeting at Arrival
Your driver will be waiting for you at the arrival exit, holding a meeting sign with your name.
After greeting you, he will escort you to the parking lot and assist with your luggage.
Your dispatcher will confirm the number of passengers and suitcases in advance to ensure the vehicle is properly arranged and everyone travels comfortably.
